Surfing in Nias

Nias is located on the offshore of Sumatra and has been visited by surfers since 1975 when Australian surfers Peter Troy, Lovett and John Giesel discovered the wave. The legendary right hander at Lagundri Bay was the first great finding in the Sumatra area and since then other surf spots have been discovered creating a surfing hub in the island. Back in the days getting to Nias was a proper mission but now the island is way more accessible but still retains some of the feeling of being out of the beaten path.
