Surfing in Minho and Douro

Minho and Douro province is located at the north coast of Portugal and is usually overlooked by visiting surfers even though there is a good amount of high quality surf breaks in the area. The area has all kinds of setups from mellow beach breaks to shallow reefs and slabs that produce waves for all kinds of surfers. The large swell window and the variety of waves provide consistent surf conditions throughout the entire year, but the best time to visit Minho and Douro is from late spring to fall.

The best surf spots are Afife, Agucadoura, Azurara, Esposende, Fao, Leca, Luz, Moledo, Perafita, Playa Camposancos, Pomona do Varzim, Praia de Labruge, Praia de Lavadores, Praia do Marreco, Praia Nova, Viana do Castelo, Vila do Conde e Vila Praia de Ancora.
