Surfing in Kwazulu Natal

Kwazulu Natal is a province located in the eastern coasts of South Africa. The main surfing area is around Durban, a famous beach town that is known for having good quality surf spots and for being a summer holiday destination. Besides Durban there are many high quality waves scattered along the coast of Kwazulu Natal including beach breaks, lots of right handers point breaks and some nice reef breaks as well. Durban can be a bit crowded but away from the major cities crowds are not an issue in this part of South Africa. Another attractive factor of the area is the warm weather and the pleasant water temperature. Differently from other parts of South Africa, in Kwazulu Natal is possible to surf without a wetsuit for 4 months of the year. Although Kwazulu Natal is not home to the most famous waves in the country, the area definitely boasts some amazing surf spots that are totally worth checking.

The best and most famous surf spots are Durban Main Beach, Bay of Plenty, Cave Rock, Amanzimtoti, Uvongo, Warner Beach, Ballito and Richards Bay.
