Surfing in Kaikoura

Kaikoura is a beautiful coastal town located on the South Island of New Zealand and it’s famous for the diverse wildlife and for being a popular place to spot whales cruising along the coast. There are also some good quality waves to be surfed in Kaikoura. The Hikurangi Trench helps to funnel swells that can come to the shore straight from deep water increasing the power and size of the waves on this stretch of coast. The best time to surf in Kaikoura is during winter when the surf conditions are more consistent, but there are still plenty of waves throughout the whole year.
