Surfing in Guanacaste

Guanacaste is located in the northern Pacific coast of Costa Rica and has consistent swell and some of the best surf spots in the country. The main surfing area is around Tamarindo and the best time of the year is during the dry season when the prevailing winds are offshore and the sunshine keeps the roads in good shape providing easy access to the surf spots. This also means crowded line ups and more expensive prices for accommodation. May to October is the beginning of the wet season and is known for having excellent surf conditions and way less people around.

The best surf spots are Avellana, Langosta, Marbella, Nosara, Ollies Point, Ostional, Playa Brasilito, Playa Del Coco, Playa Grande, Playa Guinness, Playa Negra, Tamarindo and Witches Rock (Playa Naranjo).
