Surfing in County Mayo

County Mayo is located on the west coast of Ireland and has all sorts of surf spots. The scenery ranges from verdant pastures to desertlike areas, with rocky cliffs overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Clew Bay is dotted with small, steep-sided islands, including Clare Island and there is where you will find the best surf spots in the County. Like the rest of the west coast of Ireland the best time to surf is during autumn and winter and the swells are bigger and more consistent. Beginners will prefer the hot weather and mellow waves of summer but this is also the most busy time when the beaches and lineups are more crowded.
