Surfing in Tahiti
Tahiti is located in the South Pacific and it’s the largest island in French Polynesia, the South Pacific archipelago. Tahiti is famous for being home to one of the heaviest waves in the world, the well known reef break of Teahupoo, but the island has many other surf spots that can be suited to all levels of surfers. Besides surfing Tahiti is a paradise for all kinds of water sports like stand up paddling, snorkeling, kayaking and body boarding. The best time to surf in Tahiti is from May to August during the dry season. In the south and southwest coasts you will find reef breaks, with big powerful waves. The north is where the beach breaks are located and are ideal for beginners. From October to March the swells from the north are usually smaller and better suited for less experienced surfers. Having that said you can still find powerful waves all year round and lots of barrels. The water temperature is pleasant throughout the whole year so you can leave your wetsuit at home.
