Surfing in Southwest England
The Southwest Coast of England is probably the most popular surfing area in the country. Rolling green hills, granite cliffs and beautiful coastal villages create a bucolic scenery where all kinds of waves can be found, from classic points to mellow beach breaks. One of the most famous surfing areas is North Devon where consistent beach breaks facing west are very exposed to west and southwest swells. There are many surf spots available in this area but also lots of competition and when the waves are pumping it is not easy to find a surf spot for your own. The best time to surf in the southwest coast is during winter when stormy southwest swell can close out the beach breaks but the few west facing reefs come to life creating epic peeling waves.
