Nazaré

Nazaré is a famous big wave venue located 45min by car north of Peniche. This surf spot has a deep water channel that funnels the swell creating massive waves that unleash their power very close to the beach. This conditions only happen with winter swell and they create a true show for the bystanders that crowd the cliffs to watch the best big riders in the world literally riding mountains of water. The waves break for both sides and usually require the assistance of jet skis to be surfed. The biggest waves ever surfed were caught at Nazaré putting this surf spot in the hall of fame of surfing.
