INTRODUCTION
The Wave Hunter Surf Charter is a 25-meter boat specially built for surfing and diving in Indonesia’s beautiful waters. It was made in 2019 in Sulawesi, home of the famous Bugis sailors who navigated using only wind and stars for hundreds of years.
With 6 comfortable bedrooms and bathrooms, this boat is perfect for couples, families, or anyone who wants their own private space onboard.
Feel the freedom of adventure as you sail around Indonesia’s scenic islands. Between your surf sessions and dives, enjoy tasty buffet meals with Indonesian and Western dishes to suit all tastes. Snacks are available all day to keep your energy up for the action.
The boat finds waves for intermediate surfers who like long, soft walls and advanced surfers who want fast, hollow barrels. Your expert guide listens to what waves your group prefers and takes you to the best spots based on the swell size, direction, and wind conditions.
No doubt that Mentawai chain being so good for surfing, but we also have some toys onboard in case you want a change in activities. You can find snorkeling kits, trolling fishing gear, yoga mat, massage roller, towels, loads of movies and bean bags everywhere.
We operate almost all year long, with a pause for maintenance, but high season is April to October. You may opt to come on low season for a better deal and less crowds if you are happy with smaller surf 🙂
THE ACCOMMODATION
Wave Hunter is 25 meter long vessel designed for surfing and diving in Indonesia’s stunning waters. It was built in 2019 to accommodate up to 18 in 6 cabins.
The boat has four levels with great spaces for everyone:
- Top deck: Shaded lounge with comfy cushions and bean bags, plus sunny spots to relax.
- Bridge deck: Four private double cabins with en-suite bathrooms.
- Main deck: Dining area, TV, and sound system for meals and fun.
- Lower deck: Three shared cabins with en-suite bathrooms and air-conditioning..

- Equipped with smaller craft to get you to the surf quicker. It is an aluminium boat with a 40HP Yamaha to get you to the surf in a flash. We typically have an additional boat that can also be taken for other activities such as fishing, diving or exploring the islands nearby.
Meals
Food is taken very seriously, very skilled chef specializes in Western, Brazilian, Mexican and Indonesian cuisine.
We have a rotating menu which includes various dishes of fish, prawns, squid, beef, chicken, vegetables, salads, rice and beans, pasta, spaghetti, lasagna, tacos, quesadillas, burgers and more. Plus ice cream and desserts. You never get hungry onboard.

THE ACTIVITIES
Usually, we leave Padang on the first evening and sail overnight to the Mentawai or Telo islands. Each trip has different conditions, so we adjust our route to find the best waves. Our main goal is guest satisfaction—we listen to each group’s preferences and choose spots that offer the best experience for everyone, with a good mix of waves and conditions. On the evening of day 11, we head back to Padang overnight.
Surf
A wide variety of breaks catering to intermediate (long soft walls) and advanced surfers (shallow dredging barrels). Your group will be able to communicate to the expert western surf guide about what type of waves you would like to surf. The guide will figure out the best spots to take you to depending on the size & direction of the swell and wind.
Many legendary waves here have appeared in countless surf movies over the years. You’ll find shallow reef breaks with insane tubes for experienced surfers, plus plenty of easier options for experienced beginners and intermediates where you can carve turns all day and sneak into fun, forgiving barrels.

Typical Day
Wake up at 6:30, have a coffee and fruit salad and head out for a session.
You’ll come back in at 9 and order an omelet or pancake, then chill up top with a fruit juice watching the surf.
You may wanna snorkel a bit or just watch a movie until lunch is up at 1.
After lunch, you’ll land heavily on a bean bag and briefly nap while reading your book with the waves rolling on the background.
Up refreshed, you’ll grab a snack and head for the arvo session, which will last till almost dark.
You’ll then crack open a Bintang and watch your and your friends waves on the TV as dinner comes out.
Another 2 Bintangs later it’s safe to say it’s bedtime!
LOCATION & GETTING HERE
LOCATION
We operate all over the Mentawais and will always aim to show you as much as possible of the place while focusing on finding the best waves.
Typically, we depart from Padang in the first evening of the trip and cross over to the Mentawai region overnight. Depending on condition will choose the start of our journey. Our priority is to make our guests happy, there are so many options around and we will do the schedule upon arrival. The 11th day we will leave the archipelago in the evening and travel overnight back to Padang.
Getting Here
Make your way to Padang (West Sumatra), upon your arrival in Padang, our ground crew will be ready to pick you up from Minangkabau International Airport to Hotel/Harbour and return.

IMPORTANT
Our ground crew will be ready to pick our guests up from Minangkabau International Airport to Hotel or Harbour and return. Before the boat leaves the Harbour from Padang to Mentawai the guest needs to make sure that all belonging are onboard.
Organize your flight tickets to arrive in Padang the day before of your charter. Depart from Padang is ONLY AFTER 13:00 on the final day of your charter (unless full group require different time)

- Pickup and return from Minangkabau International Airport in Padang (PDG), Sumatra. Transfers: Airport/ (Hotel) / Boat – Boat / (Hotel) / Airport. It takes around 40 min from the airport to the Boats harbour

- Starlink WIFI onboard. Fast internet connection.

- Surf guide, skipper and crew onboard to make sure everything runs smoothly.
NOT include
- Flight Tickets.
- Hotel in Padang if an overnight stay is necessary (not usually the case). There are a few options of hotels located 5 to 10 min from the harbour costing between 30 and 100 USD/night/room for 2 guests. We are happy to assist with making a booking.
- Mentawai Government Surf Tax of 2 million rupiahs (around 150 USD). Pay it upon booking the boat. The Mentawai Government may alter this fee at any time with no prior notice.
- Professional Photography and Videography packages: The photo/video package price is USD 300 – 350/person for full group booking.
- Wine and spirits are available at an additional cost upon request at the time you pay for your trip.
- Tipping the crew is not mandatory but very appreciated. All our staff members are super nice and humble, always ready to help. To see their smile when getting a tip or a gift is a beautiful thing. We recommend around USD 50 – 100/ person. All cash tips are distributed evenly among them.
