ACTIVE LEARNING METHOD
Our academic methodology is based on active learing, tailor-made programmes and individual learning support of our students.
We have developed a method and a pace of progression as well as tailored activities so that students can reach their individual objectives according to the CEFR( Common European Framework of Reference for Languages – around 100 hours for levels A1 & A2, 150 hours from level B1).
Immersion begins in our classrooms: students put the language into practice to draw on their knowledge, skills and reflexes to use in real situations. Students are constantly interacting in both written and oral French and are therefore active in their learning.
The working atmosphere in our France Langue schools is both friendly and serious; the pace is dynamic and steady to actively develop the language skills of students. From the point of view of our students, this means, « I’m learning, I’m enjoying learning, I’m actively participating so I’m progressing ».
Teaching materials used in class include recent books, audio and video documents, newspaper articles, internet resources, literature and material specifically developed by our teachers. Activities promote communication so that students can adapt themselves to different types of situation (day-to-day, educational, social, economic or professional).
Classes are organised according to levels (all 6 levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages are represented in our schools) and learning objectives, making sure of a good nationality mix.
The Program in Detail
THE PROGRAM IN DETAIL
Upon arrival at Biarritz Airport or the Biarritz train station, students will be picked up by their host family and taken to their new home. There, they can settle in, meet fellow students staying with the same host family, and enjoy a welcome dinner together.
On Monday morning, students are expected at 8 AM at the “Port Vieux” beach in Biarritz for a swimming test. Host families will drop off the students at the beach. After the test, an activity leader will accompany the students to the school for an information meeting, followed by the start of French classes.
Each week, students attend 20 immersive French lessons (15 hours) taught by qualified and experienced teachers specialised in French as a Foreign Language (FLE). These interactive classes go beyond traditional lessons, providing engaging and enjoyable learning experiences. Whether practicing speaking, listening, or participating in role-playing activities, the small class sizes ensure personalised attention, allowing each student to thrive and build confidence in their language skills. Lessons take place in classrooms in the center of Biarritz, fostering a supportive environment for effective learning.
Afternoons are when the real adventure begins!
Students dive into 4 exciting surf sessions each week, guided by certified instructors on the stunning beaches of Biarritz. Whether they’re beginners or experienced surfers, each session is designed to build confidence, improve technique, and have fun riding the waves of the Atlantic. It’s the perfect blend of adventure and skill-building in one of the world’s top surfing destinations.
In addition to surf lessons, there are two cultural and social activities per week with the instructors, scheduled around the surf sessions depending on the tides (Week 1: Cité de l’océan and skate initiation / Week 2: Aquarium and Basque pelota initiation).
Transfers between host families, classrooms, and activity locations allow students from the same host family to travel together using public transportation without supervision. This setup not only strengthens their independence but also fosters group bonding in a natural, independent way.
Public transportation tickets are not included in the program price, but on the first day, the activity leaders take the students to the bus kiosk to help them buy their tickets.
Living with a host family offers students a unique opportunity for full cultural immersion, allowing them to practice French in everyday situations. Sharing a room with another student fosters friendships and provides additional opportunities for language practice. Host families provide a welcoming environment, making students feel at home while they experience French culture firsthand.
The program includes half board, offering students healthy, balanced meals each day. Breakfast and dinner are enjoyed together with the host family, giving students a chance to savor authentic French cuisine while practicing their French.
