Surfing in North Chile

The main surfing area in the northern part of Chile is located in the surroundings of the Alacran Peninsula. This area has incredibly consistent swells throughout the whole year. This area is known for having powerful waves and very little crowds making it an incredible surf destination. The predominantly winds come from the south and are usually offshore in the morning. This is a result of the cold Humboldt current that keeps the water temperatures around 15°C (59°F) so if you visit the area make sure you pack a proper wetsuit.

The best surf spots in the North of Chile are El Gringo (Arica), El Buey, El Colegio, Las Urracas, Playa Villa Alegre and La Vedette.
