INTRODUCTION
Playa Avellanas Surf Camp is 20-min drive away from Costa Rica’s party center, Tamarindo. Our Costa Rica surf camp consists of a big, modern building with an indoor communal area and an outdoor patio leading to tropical gardens. All rooms are spacious and freshly renovated with big windows, air conditioning and mosquito nets.
From 6-bed bunk-rooms to double rooms for couples with private balconies, we have accommodations to suit all needs. The full bar mixes cooling refreshments all day. Locally-sourced home-made breakfast and dinner are prepared in the kitchen by our camp chefs.
Hidden gems such as Playa Langosta, Playa Grande and Playa Negra (mostly known from the surf movie Endless Summer II) are all accessible in minutes from camp. We offer shuttle services and bike rentals if you want to explore the other surf spots in the area. Tamarindo is famous for being the party capital of the Guanacaste region. In case you are in need of a major post-surfing fiesta, we can organize a shuttle that will take you there in 20 minutes so you don’t have to worry about driving after a few drinks.
In addition to the countless bars and clubs, there are plenty of other things to discover in Tamarindo. You can go snorkeling or scuba diving and explore the colorful underwater life at the nearby reefs. Take a stroll at the big Palo Verde National Park or experience the high speeds of a zipline ride above the treetops of the jungle, swim beneath waterfalls at Llanos de Cortez and if you have skills on a skateboard, drop the skate bowl at Playa Negra. If this sounds like a perfect place to surf, chill, relax and enjoy life. Also, the main activities in our surf camp are surfing and yoga, and sometimes we take you skating as well!
We are open every day of the year, and we cater to all surfing levels and diets. Also, we are very pet-friendly, and we have dogs and cats around the surf camp.

6 Bed dorm – Our modern 6 Bed Pipeline Dorm in Avellanas will cater all your surfing needs in a friendly atmosphere.
Located on the 1st floor of a freshly renovated house the room has air conditioning and a ceiling fan. Also mosquito screens on the windows. A spacious dorm, featuring a private patio so you can relax after and between surfing! Also has a shared bathroom for your convenience.
4-bed dorm – The true meaning of Pura Vida, the true-life rests in the heart of our 4 Bed Chopes Dorm in Avellanas, Costa Rica. A minimalist and modern 4-bed dorm room on the 2nd floor of a freshly renovated house. Our friendly Dorm has air conditioning, along with mosquito screens on the windows. There is also a trendy and minimal shared bathroom for your convenience. There is also a fan so you can ventilate the room.
Private Avellanas – Our quiet and luxurious Private Avellanas Double room is perfect for your next surf break!
Situated on the 2nd floor of a recently renovated house, this room features a comfortable king-size bed! Created for 2 guests it includes air conditioning and mosquito screens on windows. The hidden gem in this room is our private balcony with jungle views! The room also features a flat-screen TV and a nice & convenient bathroom.
Private Suites – 4 rooms
Our brand new elegant Suites offer a unique and exclusive experience with its amazing natural surroundings, lush tropical gardens a perfect balance between nature and a high-end accommodation.
Featuring a king-size bed in a spacious and comfortable area, this room also has AC , private ensuite bathroom with hot water. Perfect for couples or solo travelers.
THE ACTIVITIES
Surf
Whether you are a beginner or have plenty of surfing experience, our surf guides and the instructors at our surf school know every break by heart. They will take you to the best spot for your level depending on tides and weather conditions. If you are taking surf lessons, our instructors will first teach you the basics in surf theory class. Afterward, they will advise you on which break suits your skill level. They’ll show you how to pop up onto the board for the first time or how to improve your existing skills and get from riding to ripping. We get surfers all ages in our Surfcamp.

Location
Our surfcamp is located 15 min walking to the closest beach. Tamarindo, the nearest city is 20 min away with the car.

Getting Here
Closest Airport is in Liberia. We offer transfer, we also offer transport from Tamarindo.
In Playa Avellanas we are a 10min walk to the beach through a beautiful mangrove forest where you can observe plenty of wildlife. A 4×4 vehicle is not needed, high clearance is optional, it is a dirt road indeed but completely passable with a sedan or compact car even during the rainy season, just go slow and stay in low gear.
