Devil's Rock Surf & Yoga Camp - Tamraght, Souss-Massa-Drâa. Morocco
INTRODUCTION
Devil’s Rock is visible from our terrace, and it’s a short walk away from the surf camp. The town of Taghazout is a quick drive to the north and the city of Agadir is 15 Kms to the south.
We provide a range of surf and yoga packages intended to accommodate our guests with the ideal balance of surfing action and relaxation in the warm, Mediterranean climate. The camp is based in the village of Tamraght near Agadir, ideally situated just a short walk to the Atlantic Ocean and some of Morocco’s best surf spots. We are also only a few hours away from other top destinations such as Marrakech and Essaouira.
The surf camp is owned and managed by Moroccans; our surf instructors and staff are from the nearby village and can share local knowledge about the best things to do and see in the area. At the camp, we strive to deliver both high quality surf instruction, as well as best-in-class Moroccan hospitality, including homemade traditional Moroccan food and an experience of the Moroccan and Berber culture.
The friendly and inclusive atmosphere at the surf camp is unparalleled, proven by the number of guests who come back to stay with us year after year. Whether a solo traveller or a group of friends, after staying with us just a short while, our guests become part of the family.
We are open all year round. This is because there is always perfect waves for beginners and intermediate surfers and few surf spots for advanced surfers in Taghazout area.
This area is also free of any natural danger and is, of course, warm and so we are open through both summer and winter.
THE ACCOMMODATION
Our spacious four-level house provides simple yet comfortable accommodation. We offer a variety of rooms. In addition to double and triple rooms, we have shared rooms with two, three and four beds. All rooms share toilet and shower facilities.
The camp has three large common areas for relaxing and chilling out, including a roof terrace with amazing views of the coastline. We also have satellite TVs and DVD players if you’d like to watch a surf movie.
Meals for the surf camp are prepared on-site. We offer delicious, healthy meals made from fresh ingredients. Our dinners are traditional Moroccan dishes such as tagine and couscous.
Every day we visit the local markets and select the freshest, best-quality produce to ensure you are well nourished during your stay.
You will enjoy a huge variety of traditional Moroccan and fusion dishes, all prepared from scratch with love by our local chefs. We are used to catering for a range of special diets, including vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free – just let us know and we will be happy to accommodate your needs.
The terrace on our rooftop is our beautiful space where we eat, socialise and soak in the views over Tamraght and the sea. It is the perfect place from which to watch the sunrise and sunset, as well as enjoying a little stargazing.
Our yoga classes are held every morning before breakfast on the terrace. If you’ve never experienced yoga outside with the sound of the waves in the background, you’re in for a real treat. It’s the ideal way to greet the morning sun and get your day off to a beautiful start.
We can also hold sunset yoga classes to help you to stretch out after surfing and wind down before an evening of delicious food, relaxation and chatting under the stars.

THE ACTIVITIES
What is a typical day at the Surf Camp ?
The day starts off at a very relaxing pace; you are on holiday after all.
Breakfast is served at 8.30, and what a treat it is. A buffet of deliciously soft Moroccan bread, eggs, all manner of spreads, pancakes, pain au chocolat, and omelettes cover the tables. The options are endless; unfortunately your stomach is not! A glass of hot, spiced Moroccan coffee or freshly-made green tea with mint should wake you up from your food coma, ready for the big day ahead.
The instructors then help you get suitably suited before driving you down to one of the many excellent surf spots nearby. They pick the right wave given the conditions and your ability, so you don’t need to worry about being thrown in at the deep end, or having no waves to surf.
Now begins the hard work, 2 hours of surf coaching in the morning. This is the time to step up to the plate and be counted. The instructors have many years of experience of turning complete novices into semi-shredders and so you’re in good hands. From stretching, to pop-up practice on the beach, to perfecting your turning technique in the water, they’ve got you covered. A packed lunch and refreshments are also covered, so you can concentrate on becoming the next Kelly Slater or Stephanie Gilmore. And after lunch we have 3 to 4 Hours Free Surf (Afternoons).
Surfing is utterly exhausting, and muscles that you didn’t even know you had will ache beyond belief. I remember not being able to lift my arms when I started surfing, but that first time that you stand up, or that first turn you make washes away any pain instantly and the feeling is addictive. However, by 4pm, even the keenest among you will be beached on the sand, and so that’s when your day in the waves will end.
After being transported back to the camp, 4pm until 7pm is your down time. Most people use this time to rest and recuperate from the day’s exertions, but there are plenty of activities if you have boundless energy. You can make the most of this rugged stretch of coastline by riding a camel or a galloping horse at sunset, or speeding along on a quad bike if you’re a thrill-seeker. The markets in the local town are also worth a visit.
Whatever you spend your time doing, make sure you’re back by 7pm as you definitely won’t want to miss out on the delicious local dinner, freshly-cooked by professional chefs. Tagines are a Moroccan specialty, but every day there is a different dish to try, and there’s never a shortage of food – even with a lot of hungry mouths to feed!
After dinner you’ll go through the photos of the day’s thrills and spills, and our instructors will give advice on how to improve the following day, and after surf analysis there are games guests can play, or you can enjoy a well-earned beer or two on the terrace. If you still have any energy left you can take a trip into Agadir to sample the local nightlife, but if becoming a pro-surfer is your main aim then it’ll be an early night in preparation for another day of taming the waves.
We can’t wait to have you here with us!
