Surfing in Peninsular Malaysia

Peninsular Malaysia is bathed by the South China Sea and has long sandy beaches that provide good quality waves. The best time to surf in this area is from November to beginning of April, during the early monsoon before the sand bars start to deteriorate. The best swell direction is from North and East. Ironically the most famous surf spot in Peninsular Malaysia is the Subway Lagoon wave pool. After quicksilver organized a contest there back in 2003 the wave pool got popular and locals started to learn how to surf.
