Surfing in Kamchatka Peninsula
Kamchatka Peninsula is located on the east coast of Russia 6500 miles away from Moscow. It’s the main surf destination in the country where a new generation of surfers is thriving. The best time of the year to surf is from May to October when the water temperature is more pleasant averaging around 15 Celsius. In the rest of the year temperatures can get as low as -3 but enthusiastic surfers still paddle out with the help of thick wetsuits, boots, gloves and hoodies. The main attraction of surfing in Kamchatka is the raw nature that surrounds the peninsula. One of the most popular surf spots has an active volcano as a backdrop that can’t be compared to any other place in the world. As you can imagine the waves break on top of volcanic lava rocks and although there are 8-9 months of cold weather, the peninsula has good quality waves throughout the whole year round.
