Surfing in Gulf Coast

The Gulf Coast has very shallow waters and a large continental shelf that sucks a lot of energy from any swell that approaches the shore. Most of the waves generated in the Gulf are produced by short period wind swells and the best surf conditions are usually during the hurricane season. The water remains reasonably warm throughout the whole year.

The best surf spots are Isla Blanca Beach, Surfside Beach, Grand Isle Park, Caladesi Island, Smathers Beach, Captivate Island, Orange Beach and Dry Tortugas.
