Surfing in Golfo de Nicoya

The Nicoya Gulf is located on the north of Costa Rica almost at the northern border of the country and is known for having stunning tropical scenery, beautiful white sand beaches and abundant wildlife. Access to this area can be complicated especially during the wet season when 4WD is required but there is way less crowds and amazing surf to be explored. The area is very popular with beginners since there are many mellow beach breaks with perfect peeling waves.

The best surf spots are Boca Barranca, Bocas Tusubres, Cedros, Esterillos Oeste, Playa Caletas, Playa Carmen, Playa Coyote, Play Escondida, Playa Hermosa, Play Jaco, Playa Manzanillo, Playa Santa Teresa, Puerto Caldera, Punta Barigona, Roca Loca and Tivives.
