Surfing in Canary Island

The Canary Islands are located on the Atlantic Ocean more precisely on the offshore of the northwest coast of Africa. The main islands that comprise the archipelago are Tenerife, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, La Palma, La Gomera, El Hierro and La Graciosa. All the islands have beautiful scenery, excellent weather, delicious food and great surf spots earning the nickname of the Fortunate Islands. There are all kinds of surf breaks in the Canary Islands, from heavy and powerful reef breaks to mellow sand bottom beach breaks suitable for beginners. Although the archipelago has good waves all year round the best time to surf in the Canaries is from late September to April, with the prime months being from December to March when wave size is higher due to the intense activity of the North Atlantic Ocean.
