Surfing in Boa Vista

Boa Vista is one of the most visited islands of Cape verde due to the picturesque sand dunes and moonlike volcanic landscapes of the Viana Desert. There are really good surf spots scattered around pristine white sand beaches like Tortuga and the sprawling Santa Monica. The biodiversity is another feature of the island. Sea turtles are often seen building their nests on the shore, while migrating humpback whales are commonly spotted on the coastal waters of the island. There are even remains of a 19th-century fort on an islet across from the town of Sal Rei that helds one of the best surf spots in Boa Vista.

The two best surf spots in Boa Vista, Praia de Chaves and Boa Vista Bahia are located on the west coast.
