Maldives has some of the best waves in the world. Its waves roll perfectly over live shallow reefs and are not considered super powerful as swell normally doesn’t reach higher than 2 or 2.5 meters. Surf in Maldives is famous for its warm water temperatures all year round, perfect barrels and long funny waves with amazing surrounding scenarios. No doubt the Maldives are the ideal surf trip for intermediate and advanced surfers.

The best surf breaks are on the outer reefs on the southeast side of the atolls and most of the spots are very close to each other, so finding good surf is easy. We will do our best to organise the best surf sessions according to swell conditions, tide and weather to give you the best quality of your surf time in Himmasushi!

For all the other breaks we will bring you directly to the line up with our Dhoni boat! Our surf packages includes 2 daily surf trips per day including the assistance of expert surf guides who will help you to choose the best spot of the day between:

Also called Jailbreaks is the famous right-hander break right in front of Himmafushi Island. The spot is only 10 minutes walking from your accommodation.

Left hander – 40” by Dhoni boat A long perfect left! When it’s big, the inside section is heavy barrel that is make or break.

Righ hander – 40” by Dhoni boat A shallow and powerful right which works with S-S/SW groundswell. Here you can have the biggest barrells in Maldives.. only for experienced surfers!

Right hander – 25” by Dhoni boat Perfect for intermediate surfers, this wave is very good also for long boarders. Very know to be the most friendly wave in North Male Atoll.

Right hander – 10” by Dhoni boat One of the more consistent and fun wave of Nort Male Atoll, very mellow with some barrel sections.

Left hander – 10” by Dhoni boat You cannot miss this wave on good day conditions! One of the best left waves of Maldives breaking close to Sultans.

Sitting in the Indian Ocean the Maldives are a group of coral islands straddling the equator southwest of India and west of Sri Lanka. There are about 1,200 islands and roughly 200 of those are inhabited. These low lying islands, isolated reefs and sand spits make up part of a larger formation of 26 atolls that formed around the edges of sunken volcanic peaks.

The average size of the islands is only one to two kilometers in area and most are flat with white sandy beaches, crystal clear reefs and deep blue lagoons. They sit just 1.5 meters above sea level, and with the highest point being only 2.4 meters above sea level, the Maldives are considered the flattest country in the world.

There are many places around the globe that surfers would define as paradise and the Maldives is definitely at he top of the list. As a destination for surfing perfect waves over a crystal clear reef in a tropical setting it doesn’t get much better than this.

When Tony Hussein first came upon these islands in 1973 he was thinking the same thing yet the word didn’t get out for another 15 years about how good the Maldives really were. Eventually his discovery made its way through the surfing community and the Maldives were no longer just a destination for diving.

These idyllic tropical islands slowly began seeing a steady influx of surfers and they haven’t stopped coming since. While breaks in the northern atolls have gained most of the attention thanks to several resorts and charter boats that offer easier access, the central and southern atolls are where new discoveries are being made. The best way to reach these more distant locales is by charter boat, and while it might take just a bit longer to get there, you and your mates will likely be the only people in the water !!

Himmafushi Island

Himmafushi, Located 17 km north of the capital Male the transfer by ferry takes around 45 min is a typical fishing island with about 750 inhabitants, sandy roads and palm trees. You can walk around the island in approx. 40min and watch the locals going after their daily routine.

Rather than staying in isolated and sterile resorts you can find pure nature and interact with local families and experience the fascinating culture of the Maldives and the warm hospitality of the Maldivians. The Maldives as they truly are.

This rare opportunity to discover the real Maldives and local life while surfing world class waves is one of a kind. And finally this is what surfing is about. Not only surfing empty brakes and enjoying warm waters but also learning about new cultures and people.

The Maldives have a warm year round tropical climate and is influenced by two monsoons courtesy of the Indian subcontinent to the north.  The temperatures range from 25°C (77°F) to 33°C (90°F) throughout the year and there is an abundance of sunshine in this tropical paradise. The water temperature remains at about 26°C (80°F) all year round.
