Lisboa surf accommodation is an unusual surf camp in that it is in the heart of a city, Portugal’s capital Lisbon, so in addition to the surf there are all manner of attractions on your doorstep. It’s a place where you can surf all day, party all night and get back on your board the next morning to blow away the hangover.

Lisboa surf accommodation its own, lively hostel in the Baixa-Chiado area of the city: it’s an amazing historic building with huge rooms, high ceilings and plenty of light. You’ll be sharing the space with plenty of backpackers as well as other surfers, which makes for a lively atmosphere. Breakfast included and Wi-Fi is free.

When it comes to the surfing, there are numerous waves to choose from up and down Portugal’s Atlantic Coast, including 30 km of un spoilt beaches along the Costa Caparica.

You can hone your skills with daily surf lessons, surf courses and customized surf trips, which include surfboard and wetsuit hire as well as transport and instruction.

At Lisboa Surf accommodation you will be spoilt for choice with all the waves nearby. The immaculate beaches are a paradise for surfers, windsurfers and sunbathers alike, and as many of the beaches and coves are protected, there is a mixture of safe and exciting waves on offer at any time of the year.

Here are some of the best waves accessible from Lisboa surf accommodation :

  • Praia do Guincho: This beach is best-known for windsurfing, but it also has one of the best beach breaks in the Lisbon area. The primary swell reaches 2.4m, and you can ride it on a mid-low tide.
  • Carcavelos: This is the original and best surf spot in Portugal. Cylindrical lefts roll over shifting sandbars, and it’s a superb ride on a SW swell. Carcavelos gets busy at the weekends, so get here early if you can.
  • Sesimbra: South of Lisbon, Sesimbra is a beach break wave which on a good day runs for 150m and holds up to 4m. You can ride it at low tide only and will find it a great deal of fun.
  • Torre: Torre is on the western side of Lisbon, and the beach breaks off both left- and right-hand waves. It tends to be flat in summer, and is best with a NNW wind. Torre can get crowded.
  • Sao Pedro: This perfect right-hand point break might well be the longest wave of your life. There’s a mixture of sand and rock underneath, and it is best suited to intermediate and advanced surfers.
  • Praia Grande: One of the most consistent breaks in the area, this wave is long and slow at low tide, but speeds up as the tide rises. At the northern end of the beach are rarely ridden rights.

Surf Lisboa accommodation is right in the city of Lisbon, the capital city of Portugal. It’s a city famed as much for its history and culture as for its food and nightlife, so whatever your interests, you’ll find plenty to keep you occupied when you’ve finished surfing for the day. Tourist highlights of the city include the Chiado, a hub for students, artists and intellectuals; the shopping district of Baixa; and Carmo, with its fantastic archaeological museum and well-preserved churches.

Lisbon itself, and indeed Portugal at large, has a good public transport network, so it’s easy to get out of the city and explore. Nearby Sintra is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that has inspired poets and writers, whilst the river estuary and coastline offer great trails for hiking, mountain biking and riding. You can swim safely off many of the beaches, and in places it is possible to swim alongside the dolphins.

Portugal is part of the European Union, so many nationals don’t need a visa to visit. Although Portuguese is the official language, English is widely spoken, especially in the touristy areas, as are French and Spanish.

Getting Here

Lisbon has an international airport with direct connections to many other capital cities, as well as smaller cities across Europe. You can get cheap flights there with EasyJet, Ryanair and TAP Portugal, and there are an increased number of flights in the summer months.

The surf hostel is situated between two metro stations, Baixa and Cais do Sodre, which is also connected to the overland railway. A single ride on the metro or overground train within the city will cost you €1.40, or if you are planning to make several journeys you can buy a day pass for €6.
