THE ACTIVITIES

Surf School

To fully enjoy being “out there”, there are things you have to know and things you have to do. We recommend surf lessons, not only for the beginners, but also to the intermediate surfers. The professionalism and local knowledge of our surf instructors will surely help you to maximize the fun by choosing the right board, the right spot and the right tide to shred some waves.

The surf school is certified by the Portuguese Surfing Federation and provides top quality lessons only with certified instructors, paying special attention to instructor/student ratio (1/6 maximum), and client safety by using the right equipment according to the student level.

Most of the time, lessons are being held in a beach 1.5 km form the surfhouse. The principal surf breaks (between the piers) are 200 m. from the surfhouse, but regarding the clients safety we prefer to go to a more beginner friendly spot that has less crowd and a beautiful wood beach bar where surfers can lunch for an affordable price. (Around €7). It´s at São João da Caparica.

ALL SURF SCHOOL PACKAGES INCLUDE:

✔ 2 x 2h Lessons per day ( 1x 2h in the low season).

✔ All Equipment Included.

✔ Fully Insurance.

✔ Transfer to the beach and return.

LOCATION & GETTING HERE

Location

COSTA DE CAPARICA,  LISBON

From the regal grandeur of Baixa´s weathered tenement blocks to the buzzy up-and-coming commercial area around the Rua Dom Pedro V and the atmospheric Bairro Alto district, few cities wed tradition and modernity as convincingly has Lisbon. The Portuguese Capital has its charm in everything from food to hospitality and culture to nightlife and trendy shops. The seven hills comprise Lisbon´s Landscape putting together an amazing set to discover.

Nature lovers will find in Mata dos Medos (tr. Fear Woods) located in the Protected Landscape of the Ancient Beach of Costa da Caparica, the perfect set for a trekking experience, or for an afternoon yoga session.

COSTA DE CAPARICA

Lisbon´s beach village Costa de Caparica has Europe’s longest continuous sandy shoreline facing the Atlantic Ocean, making it the perfect spot for sun worshipers and water sport junkies alike. You can find good waves all year round, suited to your level, with right and left beach breaks, making consistency one of the most important surfing aspects in Costa de Caparica. Expect everything! From the desert beaches where no one to be found near Fonte da Telha, to the lovely and picturesque fisherman´s village Cova do Vapor just next to Rio Tejo.

Costa de Caparica has a daily routine that can be very distressing. The market where you can buy fresh fish and veggies, the beach bars where you can have a nice meal or a drink, everything is at walking distance. There is also a promenade where you can run by the sea at the end of the day, or pump your skate for some long runs while searching for the best surf break for the afternoon session.

Getting Here

By Air Plane

There is a lot of airline companies operating at Lisbon Portela Airport, providing both business class and low cost flights to tourists around the world. Thus, the airport is the operation site of about 40 airline companies, of which the most notable are Turkish Airlines, Lufthansa, Finnair, Easy Jet, Air France, Blue Air, British Airways and Brussels Airlines. These companies ensure the connection between Lisbon (and, by extension, Portugal) and virtually all corners of the world, linking the capital to destinations like Amsterdam and Paris, Madrid and Rome, London and Moscow, the Canary Islands, Bucharest, Philadelphia, Tunis, Tel Aviv, Cairo and so on.

By train

In terms of railway transport, the tourist and commercial platform of Lisbon is serviced by four main train stations: the Santa Apolonia (Estacao da Santa Apolonia), the so-called Rossio (Estacao do Rossio), Barreiro (Estacao do Barreiro) and Cais do Sodre (Estacao do Cais do Sodre).

The Santa Apolonia Train Station (Estacao da Santa Apolonia) is the largest of all, being located in the vicinity of the Alfama district. It is the main terminal for trains which ensure the connection between Lisbon and north and east Portugal, as well as between Lisbon and international destinations like Madrid and Paris.

For complete information on the trains arriving at or departing from each of the four stations of Lisbon, schedules, connections, ticket prices and the like, please visit Comboios de Portugal. The company can also be contacted at 808 208208 or by dialing 00351 707201280 (from abroad).

By car

Some might find it rewarding to get to Lisbon by car. This is, without a doubt, one of the most time-consuming manners of traveling to the capital of Portugal, first of all due to the city’s geographical location on the west coast of the country, and secondly because the first step of getting to Portugal is to cross Spain. The border between the two countries is pegged out by 15 checkpoints, so the alternatives are fairly reasonable, as far as their diversity is concerned. The border crossing process is also said to be, as a rule, quite smooth.

Depending on the direction from which tourists head for Lisbon, they can resort to several motorways and national and European roads. People who come from the south can take the A 2 Motorway, whereas the A 6 Motorway is recommendable for tourists coming from the east. Drivers who turn to these alternatives must be aware that they must also cross the 25 Abril Bridge in order to eventually reach Lisbon. Traffic can get quite sluggish on this bridge, especially weekdays.

The A 12 Motorway is the best solution for tourists who come from the north. They must also cross the Vasco da Gama Bridge (the longest bridge in Europe). The A 5 Motorway is advisable for visitors who travel from the west. However, sundry other combinations are, indeed, possible. Most of the motorways which connect Lisbon with the rest of the country are linked to at least one of the three ring roads of the capital.

In order to get familiar with the network of motorways, national and European roads of Portugal and make the most convenient decision in respect to what combination is the most suitable to each traveler’s holiday priorities, please visit Estradas de Portugal.
