The Surf

Madeira stands in the way of all the swells that come out of the North Atlantic, and as a result catches the big swells generated.
Madeira is really not for the beginner... but the surfers looking for big waves will definitely find what they are looking for.
The best season to go surfing is from October to April, this is when Madeira is exposed to the NW Swells that power across the Atlantic each year.
The best spots on the island include Lugar de Baixo, Jardim do Mar and Paul do Mar, but you will find much more...

Here’s a quick description of these spots:

- Lugar de Baixo : Fast, Powerfull and totally Epic right hander, reef, starts working at 2.5m-3m / 8ft-10ft and holds up to 3m+ / 10ft+ - Experienced surfers...

The Location

Jardim do Mar:
This picturesque old village stands on a plateau looking down to the ocean against a backdrop of spectacular cliffs. The village with his 3 restaurants and 5 bars is a real surfer's paradise but aswell an excellent place for natural and healthy activities like walking, sailing and swimming.

Madeira Island:
Madeira belongs to a volcanic archipelago of which several islands are Portuguese.
Some are inhabited (Madeira and Porto Santo), the others are natural reserves, certified worldwide patrimony by UNESCO
Madeira offers not only a pleasant year round climate and wonderful fauna and flora - Madeira is also virtually crime free and one of the safest holiday destinations in the world!

Climate :
Most people who went to Madeira think that it has just about the most perfect climate in the world. It is never too hot , averaging a maximum of 24 °C during the summer months (July through to October) and a minimum of 17 °C. During the winter average temperatures drop by approximately 4 °C.

The island of Madeira is known as " the island of  eternal spring". You will have a sensation of being in a subtropical country, because there are no extreme temperatures, and because it rains regularly but not persistently.

The water temperature is also pleasant year round with an average of 19 ª C due to the warming influences of the Gulf Stream.

The meeting point for the Jardim do Mar Madeira Surfaris is the Lisbon Airport (LIS).

Once you get off the plane and through customs and immigration, we take care of you all the way. You will be met by a Jardim do Mar Madeira Surfaris representative at the airport who will help you all the way to the next plane to Madeira Island.

Flights tickets Liisbon airport - Madeira Airport -Liisbon airport are included in your price.

You can stay at one of our Lisbon Surfcamps for a night or longer if needed on day of your arrival or departure.
