BALI Surfcamp SEMYNIAK, Surf School, Surfaris & Accommodation
The essence of Bali Surf camp is the fact that you can really discover the island, its many surfspots and numerous other attractions. Mobility is a big thing for this camp, so that both beginners and experienced surfers get their money's worth with the "guided tours" that are arranged two or three times a day. Accompanied by surf guides, 4x4's and our boat you'll be able to discover the perfect waves all around these more than divine islands.

The Surf Camp

The Surf Camp

Bali Surfcamp offers 2 surfhouses: Semyniak, next to Kuta and the nightlife, and Balangan, a quieter place on the Bukit Peninsula, 30 min. south of Kuta. Surfaris and Surfschool are common to both surfhouses.

SEMYNIAK Surfhouse (Kuta)

The Surfhouse is at the Green Room Hotel on Bali's west coast, 10 minutes from Kuta. It is Bali Surfcamp's headquarters and the perfect place for beginners - the surf school takes place close by on a sandy beach - and for night life lovers. Shops, restaurants and clubs are within easy walking distance.

The rooms are situated around the natural stone pool in the tropical garden and they all have their own bathroom, hot water, ventilation and terrace. If you prefer things a bit more exclusive you can book one of the theme rooms – for instance, the Jungle Room: jungle design combined with all mod cons AC, minibar, TV/DVD/MP3 plus a weekly aroma therapy and massage.

The Robinson Crusoe design of the entire camp ensures you experience island lifestyle at its best. Our Chill House with its HiFi/DVD, beach bar, BBQ corner or hammocks is ideal for hanging out between surfing trips: relaxing, wining and dining, whatever you fancy...

The six wonderful kilometres of Kuta Beach are only a few minutes' walk from the camp and this offers you the legendary beachbreaks, such as HalfWay, Padma or KuDeTa, and is a great counterpiece to the daily tours.

 BALANGAN Surfhouse (Bukit)

The Surfhouse is a quieter, beachfront facility with accommodation in traditonal balinese bungalows. It is located on the Bukit Peninsula and next to such famous surfspot as Dreamland and Impossibles. It is the perfect place for experienced surfers, couples and nature lovers as there is no nightlife and the surfschool is a 40 min. drive away - shuttle provided though.

Taking a swell check from the comfort of your bed? The sound of the sea as your lullaby?
Just drop into the eat-sleep-surf-rhythm with one of the world’s best surf regions on your own doorstep: far from the madding crowds and shopping malls, we have only one thing in mind: surfing, and nothing else!

The camp hotel is situated directly on the cliffs of Balangan Beach, on the Balinese peninsula of Bukit. One of Bali’s longest left-handers breaks over reef at the foot of the cliffs on to the most wonderful white sandy beach with palm groves. Since the spot can be run at any tide surfing’s possibe several times a day! Just a few minutes’ walk will take you to Dreamland, Bingin or Impossibles. Other world-famous spots such as Uluwatu or Padang Padang are only a short drive away.

The camp only takes up to 10 participants so it’s easy for intermediate and advanced surfers to fall into the eat-sleep-surf-rhythm and forget every- thing - apart from surfing - on our twice-daily “Guided Tours” round Bukit and Bali. However, if you prefer to be out and about on your own, you’re free to use the camp's jeeps to go to town and enjoy Kuta's night life, although a 40 min. ride from Balangan.

FOOD

Breakfast
(Semyniak + Balangan)
To get you off to a good start in the morning, breakfast (included in all rates) is a choice between tea or coffee, jaffles or sandwiches, nasi goreng, eggs or pancakes, fruit salad or juice.

Drinks & Dinner (Semyniak only)
A two course meal “All you can eat” with two soft drinks (not included in basic Surfaris package). There’s something different on the menu everyday- A combination of western-International and Indonesian food. This can be had between 18:00 and 22:00 hours, whenever you’re ready.

Indo food
Living costs on Bali are extremly low. The obligatory beer on the beach is usually the most expensive thing on the menu of the healthy indo food, like fruit salads and nasi (rice) or mie goreng (fried noodles) which can be had for 1 Euro even on the most remote beaches. For example, a rich dinner (fish including a side dish) would cost around 2 Euro!!! The Surfhouse is surrounded by numerous native restaurants - warungs - which makes it easy to get anything, anytime.

Western food
In Seminyak there are plenty of restaurants which cater for the western palate. You'll find all sorts of food: German, Italian, Japanese, Greek, or Brazilian, plus of course the usual international fast food chains.

SURF COURSES

- 5-Days: 2.5 Hours School of Surf for complete beginners (never surfed before)
- Surf material
- Training in small groups with individual supervision.
- Two lunches

The guides can help and give some basic advise to the campers with little surfing experience, but for the total beginner, NEVER TRIED, we recomend the weekly surfschool. With the international licensed Rip Curl School of Surf, we offer qualified lessons for beginners. Our special recipe is "first teach the basics and then move on to learning by doing" - the one sure way of getting hooked on surfing. The "Learn to Surf Package" consists of 8 days' School of Surf, where you'll learn the basics, such as paddling, turning your board and techniques to get you back on your feet.

SURFARIS

Guided Surf Tours

As already mentioned, the major concept of the surfari is to get to know what's near and far in Bali. Whether shorebreak in Dreamland, reef of Bingin or Kuta´s beach breaks, our long-term experience of Bali promises to take you to every wave all around the island. Depending on the day's conditions, what the participants want to do and their surfing level, the group takes off by car, boat, or a "guided" tour over the island two or three times a day. Our camp boat can easily pick you up at the beach to take you to the various reefbreaks or wakeboarding / angling / trawling.

As agreed, you will have free access to our fleet of minivans, jeeps and mountainbikes. We also offer weekly sightseeing tours to various locations, such as volcano trekking, snorkelling, cultural sightseeing etc.
You will require an international driver's license to use our vehicles. After reservation you will receive more information and travel advice.

Surf equiment and surf conditions

Our material has been put together to suit the conditions we have here: shortboards (6'0'' - 7'0''), funshapes (7'0'' - 7'8'') for our beginners. Leashes and rashies are provided for all participants. If you don't mind the haul, feel free to bring your own equipment or favourite board with you, so you can put them to the ultimate test.

Board shorts, booties and wax can be had here at reasonable prices. The diversity and sheer perfection of the waves is enough to make any surfer's heart miss a beat. No matter what time of the year Bali has constant surf and ideal conditions for both beginners and pro's. And don't worry about the Swell thats 100% guaranteed!

Bali Surf Spots

Bali has over 20 top-quality breaks on the Southwest and Southeast coasts of the island and around the Bukit Peninsula. Some of these breaks like Padang Padang and Uluwatu are world class barrelling reef breaks. Others range from good fun, like the beach breaks around Kuta and Sanur, to serious tubular waves. Bali gets the full force of southern ocean swells directly from the Antarctic, its south-west and south-east coasts being littered with surf spots. The dry winter months (June-Sept) are preferred for their perfect surf conditions. However, this means that these are also the most crowded times. The Monsoon, or wet season (Oct-May) still offer good waves. Bali, unlike other areas of Indonesia where all spots are heavy reef breaks for experienced surfers, actually has a lot of beach breaks accessible to all.

- Padang Padang: “The balinese pipeline”. Left . Very fast long barrelling. Breaks over a shallow coral reef and is only for expert Surfers.

- Padang Padang Rights: Perfect for beginners. Long slow unbroken waves. Breaks in front of a beautiful white sandy beach. Ideal aswell for sunbathing and watching the sunset

- Impossibles: Left. Fast racy wave. Reef Coral break with 3 seperate peaks that can link up with good conditions. Just for Experts or Kamikaze Surfers !!

- Uluwatu: Left. Reef Coral break. Very consistent with many different peaks which all turn on at different tide stages. Experts only.

- Dreamland: Right and left. Beautifull Beach break that works at different tides and is suitable for novice Surfers.

- Balangan: Left. Reef Coral break on a beautiful and very quiet white sandy beach. Suitable for all surfers.

- Bingin: Left. Reef Coral break. Works best at mid tide and has very consistent waves with many perfect barrels. With high tide it is perfect for long boarders or intermediate surfers. At low tide it can be very shallow and recommended for expert Surfers only.

The Location

The Location

Indonesia

The emerald islands of the Indonesian archipelago have for centuries lured everyone, from missionaries to pirates, traders and more recently to tourists and backpackers. The sandalwood and spice breezes, magnificent beaches, mountains and volcanoes of these islands acting as a magnet to both ancient and modern travellers. But Indonesia is also the ultimate surfer's paradise, with hundreds of islands and unknown waves waiting to be discovered. The climate is tropical and has two main seasons: the Monsoon from November to march and the dry season from June to October. The surf is basically found on the Indian Ocean (south/west coast) while the Pacific Ocean (north/east coast ) has hardly any waves. Although there are surf spots and good waves on about any island, the main surfing destinations are the Bali, Lombok& Sumbawa islands, east of Java island, the easternmost corner of Java, and the Nias and Mentawai islands, off the west coast of Sumatra.

Bali

Although Bali is relatively small (90 miles long and 48 miles wide), it is densely populated and culturally and economically one of the most important islands of Indonesia. Bali has more than 3 million people, a great variety of countryside and probably more than 10,000 temples. While Bali may no longer be the "last frontier" surf destination, it still lies at the heart of the Indonesian surf experience, the quality of its waves and "Bali Hai" lifestyle attracting surfers from all over the world. It is also a mandatory stop for anyone on their Indo trip to the adjacent G-Land, Lombok or Sumbawa surf spots. Bali is an island of high volcanoes, rice fields, majestic temples and beautiful beaches which has maintained its traditions very well alive, but you will equally find McDonalds, surfshops, cheap restaurants, bars and plenty of nightlife in Kuta.

Climate

Tropical. Warm waters all year long ! Dry season from June to September - Wet season from October to May

Bali is a tropical island with temperatures ranging from 21 to 33°C. Dry season lasts from April until September, and that means sunshine every day. Wet season lasts from December until March, and at least a short daily shower is common. It might get a bit cooler at night, but still, temperatures mostly remain tropical. So don’t take too many clothes! Except for one long sleeve outfit and the right shoes for hiking the volcano, shorts and tee shirts are more than enough. Besides, shopping is a must on Bali! Water temperature is a constant 28°C, so you will mostly surf in shorts. At chilly morning sessions you will sometimes wear a lycra shirt, but a neoprene shorty is not really necessary.

The Trip

Bali Denpasar International Airport (DPS)
Garuda, Singapore, Qantas + major airlines

Immigration

You need a visa for entering Indonesia, which you can do on arrival in Bali airport for EUR 35.-. It is only valid for 30 days, so if you plan to stay longer please contact the Indonesian embassy in your country or your travel agent for further details. Note that your passport has to be valid for more than 6 months after leaving Indonesia.

Money / ATM / Credit cards

Indonesian Rupiah (IDR) is the currency on Bali. All money changers change EUR, but if you don’t want to take too much cash with you, there are plenty of ATM machines which accept any credit or ATM (Maestro) cards from home. Most of the shops and restaurants accept credit cards as well.

Medical Information

Medical care is fine here on Bali. The most important personal first aid for cuts and wounds, common travel medication and sunscreen is still a very good idea and saves you valuable holiday time. Contact your doctor or homeopathist for vaccinations or us for further advice.

Packing Slip for Advanced Travellers

Along with your personal stuff take plenty of sunscreen with you. The risk of Malaria is still very low. But take with your prophylaxis tablets. In any case ask you doctor before going to Bali. Do not bring too much clothing with you, because we are sure that you are going to shop a lot. There are also a lot of cheap opportunities to wash your stuff.
