Costa Rica is a well known and well developed surf destination - especially since featuring in the famous surf movie "Endless Summer 2". The country is the safest one in Central America, beautiful, friendly and blessed with great surfing on both coasts, the Pacific and the Caribbean. Costa Rica has good surf spots for surfers of all levels, from beginners to experienced. The surfing can be broken into three main surf areas: The Pacific North (Guanacaste-Nicoya), the Pacific South (Punta Arenas) and the Caribbean. Surf towns are developing in places such as Jaco Beach, Santa Teresa, Tamarindo and Puerto Viejo. Year round warm water, warm air and offshore breezes on the northern Pacific coast make for great surfing conditions. The best waves occur in the rainy season (summer) on the pacific side, and in the hot dry season (winter) on the Caribbean - ensuring that you should always be able to find surf someplace. Furthermore, a surf trip to Costa Rica can perfectly be combined with neighbouring Panama, with some excellent surf spots too.
